My Morning With God
I LOVE sunrises… They are beautiful in so many ways. Sitting alone watching a sunrise feels to me like you’re sitting there alone with God, while He starts a day. It’s as if while everyone else is asleep, He’s letting you in on a secret… Like He is showing you how it’s all done. You start to see all of the little pieces of the puzzle come together, very slowly. Then, as if God is nudging you with His elbow, saying “watch this” with a proud, all-knowing smile, it all comes together in a matter of a couple minutes. The sun quickly makes its climb over the horizon, going from a deep red, to a beautiful amber, to yellow, then finally to the blinding ray that you know you can’t watch at anymore, but you don’t want to take your eyes away from the magnificence you just watched… All the colors in the world go from a calm, dull hue to vibrant, life-filled beauty, richer than any words will ever describe.
And the best thing about it is, while I love watching sunrises, I get a feeling that God loves making them… I picture Him eying everything as a painter does his canvas, carefully placing each color and shade in its place, not resting until it is perfect… And at the same time, it is like a conductor standing before an orchestra… Timing perfectly when to bring in the next motive, being ever so careful to not take a section too fast or too slow… God really is the ultimate artist, all around. And I don’t think He could create something of such beauty if He didn’t really, truly love doing it every day. The fact that He would take so much care, and so much joy in preparing a day for us, makes me want to fall in love with Him even more.
God, I am sorry that I sometimes take the work that You so lovingly prepare for us for granted. Thank You for doing what You do, and for doing it with such passion and such craftsmanship. I pray that if anyone ever starts to feel like a day is just another day, You would give them the urge to spend a sunrise with You, to watch You at work, and I pray that is enough to change their hearts… Because if watching You create a day is not enough to make someone silent in wonder, then I don’t know what is. Thank You for sharing this with me.
